Advair

What is Advair?

Advair is a medication comprising a combination of fluticasone and salmeterol. Fluticasone, a steroid, prevents the release of inflammatory substances in the body, while salmeterol, a bronchodilator, relaxes muscles in the airways, enhancing breathing.

Advair Uses:

  • Advair inhalation is a combination medicine designed to prevent asthma attacks.
  • It is also utilized to prevent exacerbations or worsening of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema.

Advair Types and Age Restrictions:

  • Advair Diskus is suitable for adults and children aged 4 and above.
  • Advair HFA is intended for use by adults and children aged 12 and above.

Warnings:

  • Advair should not be used by individuals allergic to fluticasone, salmeterol, or milk proteins.
  • It is not a rescue medicine for fast treatment of asthma or bronchospasm attacks.
  • Seek medical attention if breathing problems worsen or if medications seem ineffective.

Possible Side Effects and Precautions:

  • Advair may lead to fungal infections in the mouth and throat.
  • Long-term use is associated with a higher risk of pneumonia in COPD patients.
  • Prior to usage, disclose relevant medical history to the doctor.
